Volquez's recovery continues

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Edinson Volquez threw off the mound on Sunday for the second time since his season-ending "Tommy John" surgery."I feel good," Volquez said. "It's a (long) process, but I'll be fine."
Volquez threw 30 pitches on Sunday, he said. He'd thrown 25 on Thursday and is schedueled to throw 45 pitches off the mound on Wednesday. He'll stay in Goodyear when the team goes back to Cincinnati to continue his rehab.
"I don't know how many more bullpens I'm going to have, but it's going to be a lot," Volquez said. "Everyone will be gone and I'll still be here. I'll have to find new friends."
Volquez has been in camp since the beginning and has been playing long toss, but throwing off the mound is different.
"It's tough because when you play catch, long-toss, you throw up and on the mound it's a different angle," Volquez said.
That's why throwing off the mound is a big hurdle in the recovery from ulnar collateral ligament surgery. It's one he's cleared and hopes it's one of many, as he tries to return soemtime after the All-Star Game.

I think it could be very fortunate this season to have Volquez coming back after the all star break. Would love to see him be able to handle a starter's workload, but coming out of the bullpen would be sweet.
