Spring Training 2010

Live: Reds @ Dodgers 3.12.10

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Happy Aroldis Day.

Bronson Arroyo willhttp://cnati.com/cgi-bin/mt/mt.cgi?__mode=view&_type=entry&id=1494&blog_id=1&saved_changes=1 be pitching before Chapman, but we'll get there eventually.

Dusty Baker said he'd be pitching two innings, but "maybe three,  we'll see"

Went to Goodyear before this, saw Barry Larkin and Sean Casey at the co complex. I wasn't able to talk to them more than plesantries, but will do so later.

Chris Burke took BP and said he felt good.

* Top 1: Stubbs lines out, Cabrera flies out and Votto grounds out. Redlegs 0, Trolley Dodgers 0

* Bottom 1:
Furcal pops out, Ausmus has a slow roller to short and it's a base hit. Bronson Arroyo sang six songs at Jake Peavy's Woodjock in Scottsdale.

When asked if he had any pangs to play guitar, he said he resisted.

Ethier hits a soft liner to center, but Stubbs runs it down. Then a popup to Frazier by Kemp. Redlegs 0, Trolley Dodgers 0

* Top 2:
BP goes down. This place is really, really pretty here at Camelback Ranch, but it's like they built it to look one way and then fit everything needed at a baseball stadium around their aesthic ideal, baseball be damned.  But, as for watching a game here, it's really pretty.

Rolen hits one a ton, but right into center for an out. Bruce singles up the middle. Then he steals second. Gomes singles to left and Repko plays it perfectly, gunning him at the plate. Redlegs 0, Trolley Dodgers 0

* Bottom 2:
3-up, 3-down for Arroyo, including a nice running catch by Bruce in right. Redlegs 0, Trolley Dodgers 0

* Top 3:
Kershaw walks Hernandez. Frazier too. Stubbs goes down looking. Cabrera pops up. Votto goes down looking. Redlegs 0, Trolley Dodgers 0

* Bottom 3:
SIngle by DeJesus with 1 out and then Furcal goes five-hole on Rolen for an E5. Then Ausmus is out swinging and DeJesus is thrown out trying to go to third. Redlegs 0, Trolley Dodgers 0

* Top 4: Brandon Phillips walks. Then with two outs Jonny Gomes takes the first pitch he sees and hits it way out to make it 2-0. Gomes also nearly overtook Phillips on the bases. First pitch to Hernandez almost hits him. He walks. Frazier Ks. Redlegs 2, Trolley Dodgers 0

* Bottom 4:
Francisco Cordero is in for the Reds. Arroyo's line 3 IP, 2 H, 1 K. Cordero walks Ethier to start the inning. He Ks Kemp. A hit and then a strikeout looking to end the inning. Redlegs 2, Trolley Dodgers 0

* Top 5: Broxton in for the Dodgers, as we wait for Chapmania. Stubbs walks. On the first pitch, he's gone and Cabrera singles through the hole at second, but Stubbs didn't really pick it up off the bat, hesitates around second but is fine at third. Votto crushes one, but it's right at DeJesus. And a double play for Phillips. Redlegs 2, Trolley Dodgers 0

* Bottom 5:
Also in, Heisey, Dickerson, Nix around the outfield, Janish at short, Miles at second and Alonso at first. Chapman's first pitch is a little wild then gets Repko to pop up. Chapman's first three pitches to DeJesus are balls. Next two are strikes, the second one looked like it was moving. Then an infield single up the middle. Miles gets to it, but not enough on the throw. Gets up 0-2 on Furcal. Next pitch is gas, and it's called a ball. Furcal hits one down the line at third, Rolen gets to it, but pulls Miles off the bag. It's another infield single. Ausmus fouls off the first pitch and then blows a strike by him on the second, and they get the pinch runner on first. Now 2-2 on Ausmus.  Looked offspeed for ball 3. A week swing by Ausmus and it's a weak little liner to Alonso at first. Redlegs 2, Trolley Dodgers 0

* Top 6:
With two outs, Heisey hits what looks like a popup to left-center or a double if the centerfielder can't get there. Insrtead, it goes into the stands for a homer. Heisey didn't think it was out either, he was nearly to second when the umpire signaled home run. Both Homers have come from the 7 spot in the lineup (and the scorecard, Heisey replaced Gomes in left) and I'm not sure who made it around the bases faster. Ramon Hernandez follows with a double to right. Alonso pounds one up the middle, but Sherrill stabs at the ball behind his back and gets it. Redlegs 3, Trolley Dodgers 0

* Bottom 6: Wilkin Castillo in at third. Hernandez is going to continue to catch for Chapman. A called strike and a popup foul to third that Wilkin Castillo goes into the stands to get. Then he's up 0-2 quickly on Matt Kemp. Then up and in with fastball for a ball. Now it's full. And the lady in front of me is clipping her nails. Foul ball. And then Kemp swings through a fastball. 1-1 to Blake. Third pitch nearly bounced in front of the plate, but Blake was swinging early and swung through it. Chapman lets the next pitch go and it's a ball. Another one. We're full. And looking at a slider. Changeup. Redlegs 3, Trolley Dodgers 0

* Top 7:

And we're final. Reds 3, Dodgers 2
