Former Reds' No. 1 pick Yonder Alonso is headed to Class AAA Louisville after starting the season in Class AA Carolina.Alonso got the call up when Danny Dorn was placed on the disabled list with a broken bone in his hand, suffered after being hit by a pitch on Tuesday.

"I just left that club, he's swinging the bat fine, gets pitched around a lot," Reynolds said. "He has to be patient. He should slide into the lineup in Louisville just fine."
Alonso was drafted out of the University of Miami as a first baseman, but the fact that the Reds have one of the best first basemen in baseball has forced the team to try to find another position for Alonso. He started playing left field in spring training and has mostly played there with Carolina and will stick in the outfield at Louisville.
"He's done fine. He works hard at it, he takes pride in it where ever he is," Reynolds said. "He's a baseball guy and he understands what he's looking at the path of least resistance. He gets it."
Bats manager Rick Sweet had been playing a juggling act with his lineup for much of this season, having several players play in multiple positions. However, with Dorn's injury and Juan Francisco's recent emergency appendectomy, the lineup has settled into a routine, Reynolds said.
"The main goal is to get guys in a position so they can contribute here," Reynolds said. "Alonso's going to be his left fielder for the most part and Frazer his third baseman."
Reynolds had just returned from watching Class AA Carolina and Class A Lynchburg, where another former first-rounder, catcher Devin Mesoraco, has been playing extremely well.
Mesoraco is tearing up the Carolina League, hitting .340/.425/.641.
"He's both offensively and defensively a bright spot," Reynolds said.
In Lynchburg, Mesoraco is playing for manager Pat Kelly, who has also served as the organization's catching instructor.
Also in Lynchburg, pitcher Brad Boxberger, a first-round supplemental pick last season, is 3-2 with a 2.20 ERA in six starts. He starts again tonight, and Reynolds said he's likely next in line for a call-up to the next level.
