Sharks defenseman Boyle-ing hot

San Jose Sharks defenseman Dan Boyle recorded a goal and five assists in four games this past week, giving him 10 goals and 33 assists for the season.

The former Miamian recorded an assist against Boston on Jan. 14, was pointless vs. Edmonton on Dec. 16, notched a pair of helpers in the Sharks' 9-1 drubbing of Calgary on Jan. 18, and finished with a goal and an assist at Los Angeles on Jan. 19.

Boyle, an 11-year NHL veteran, has never rolled up more than 43 assists in the NHL. His NHL best in points is 63, set in 2006-07.

Boyle is currently third in the NHL in points by a defenseman with 43. His 18 power-play assists ties him with Capitals blueliner Mike Green for helpers on the man-advantage.

NHL: Defenseman Alec Martinez was sent back to Manchester on Wednesday. Martinez has played a total of four games with the Los Angeles Kings this season.

Martinez has 31 points (11-20) in 91 AHL games since turning professional in 2008, but he is still looking for his first point in the NHL.

AHL: Forward Mike Glumac picked up his ninth goal of the season in Hamilton's lone game in the past week. Glumac now has 155 goals in eight seasons in the AHL.

Defenseman Brian Sipotz played in three games for the Chicago Wolves, and he notched his 40th career assist.

ECHL: Defenseman Mitch Ganzak scored a pair of goals and added an assist in three games for Wheeling.

Ganzak now has five goals and 23 assists in 40 games. In 2008-09, his only other pro season, Ganzak went 7-33-40.

CHL: Forward Nino Musitelli recorded three goals in three games for Allen. He scored a goal each against Rapid City, Wichita and Arizona. Musitelli went 19-31-50 in his first professional season with the ECHL Dayton Bombers in 2008-09.

Goaltender Charlie Effinger stopped 22 of 24 shots against Wichita to earn a his eighth win for Allen. Effinger has picked up wins in five straight decisions.

Europe: Forward Pat Leahy eclipsed the 150-point mark for Linz of the Austrian League by recording a goal and an assist in two games.

Forward Mike Kompon scored two goals for Munich, giving him 13 tallies on the season. His European record is 18, set in 2007-08.
