Notes: Reichard perfect in starts this season

Cody Reichard had 10 wins last season, but after recording back-to-back victories against Northern Michigan in the You Pee over the weekend, the sophomore goaltender already has five in 2009-10.

Reichard stopped 50 of 54 shots he faced vs. the Wildcats, and has given up just five goals in his last four appearances.

Reichard has won every game he's started this season - his lone tie came in relief of fellow sophomore Connor Knapp when he shut down New Hampshire for a period and a half, allowing Miami to rally for the equalizing goal.

Apparently Knapp had the flu over the weekend, which is why he was scratched from his regular Saturday start. Reichard will likely play Friday, with Knapp returning to his Saturday starting role this week at Michigan.

Though it's just his second year, Reichard is only two wins away from moving into the top 10 Miamians in all-time wins. Kevin Deschambeault (1992-96), Brent Smith (1983-87) and Tim Hall (1983-85) all have 17, and are tied for the Nos. 8-10 spots.

Reichard needs to play 24 minutes and 52 seconds to qualify for the Miami career goals-against average and save percentage leaders (1,500 career minutes are required to etch one's name into the RedHawks' record book). If he already qualified, Reichard would be second all-time among Miamians with a 2.03 GAA and .916 save percentage.

Jeff Zatkoff is the school's record holder in both categories (1.96 GAA, .927 save percentage).

Knapp reached the 1,500-minute mark in his last start. He is officially second in GAA at 2.20 (though Reichard will bump him down to third when he qualifies), and his .901 save percentage ties Reichard with Chuck Thuss for fourth all-time (again, until Reichard plays 25 more minutes).

MIELE'S BREAKOUT SEASON? Junior Andy Miele has been a major offensive contributor since the day he put on a Miami jersey, but so far this season his production has been through the roof.

He has points in seven of the RedHawks' eight games, more than any other RedHawk. Junior Jared Palmer has notched points in six games, and juniors Carter Camper and Tommy Wingels have gotten on the scoresheet in five.

Miele is now tied for the team lead in points (9) and lead Miami in assists (8) after recording a helper in each game vs. Northern Michigan.

Miele had 30 points last season and 14 in his half-season as a freshman.

PALMER REACHES THE 100 MARK - AGAIN: Palmer is without question one of, if not the most skilled of Miami forwards, but over the weekend he reached a milestone that has little to do with his offense prowess.

A week after becoming the 43rd RedHawk ever to record 100 points, Palmer was assessed a hooking penalty at the 10:15 mark of the first period, giving him 100 career penalty minutes. He also took a contact to the head-high sticking minor later in that game.

Palmer is one of three current RedHawks with over 100 career penalty minutes. Junior Justin Vaive leads the team with 117 all-time, and senior Gary Steffes has 116.

RE-VAIVED OFFENSE: Vaive did not score the first seven games of the season, but on Friday he became just the second RedHawk this season to net two goals in a game.

Vaive scored his goals 47 seconds apart during the second period to give Miami a 2-0 lead. That gave him 11 goals for his career, and 25 points.

Camper scored twice in the first New Hampshire game on Oct. 16.

ASSISTS MILESTONE: Junior Pat Cannone assisted on Vaive's first goal on Friday to give him 50 career assists.

Only Camper and Palmer have more career assists among current RedHawks.

100-POINT CLUB UPDATE: Palmer recorded one assist over the weekend (although strangely Miami's site rightly has him with nine points on the season and the CCHA site still has him with eight), giving him 101 career points.

Palmer tied Pat Leahy (1997-2001) and Mitch Ganzak (2004-08) for 41st all-time among Miamians. On Oct. 24, he became the 43rd Miamian to reach 100 career points.

Next up for Palmer is Justin Mercier and Andrew Miller (104 points).

Camper had an assist to move up to 91 career points, Cannone's assist gives him 69 and Wingels' goal puts him at 65. All three of them are juniors.

Here's the current list of players near Palmer:

35. Brian Savage 109
36. Craig Fisher 108
37. Randy Robitaille 106
37. Greg Dornbach 106
39. Justin Mercier 104
39. Andrew Miller 104
41. Pat Leahy 101
41. Mitch Ganzak 101
41. Jarod Palmer 101
