Forward Marty Guerin did not have a goal in his first seven games overseas, but he netted a pair for Pontebba (Italy) on Oct. 31 in a 3-2 win over Cortina.

Guerin scored with 1:10 left in the first period to tie the score, 1-1, then he notched his second less than three minutes into the second stanza to give Pontebba the lead, which is did not relinquish. Both goals were on the power play.

Guerin had been used sparingly the early part of the season (he had two shots prior to that game, and put seven on net in his two-goal performance), but hopefully for him that outburst will result in more ice time.

NHL: Defenseman Alec Martinez played in the Los Angeles Kings' season opener, his first-ever game in the NHL.

Unfortunately for Martinez, he was placed on injured reserve with a sprained ankle after 24 days in limbo. The transaction was officially made by Los Angeles on Oct. 29, retroactive to Oct. 5.

Martinez did not record a point in his NHL debut, although he did blast a shot off the post.

AHL: Goaltender Jeff Zatkoff continued his stellar start with Manchester, stopping 44 of 45 shots vs. Worcester to improve to 3-1 in his only appearance last week.

Zatkoff faced 34 of those shots in the final two periods to preserve the 4-1 win. He now has a .978 save percentage this season for the Monarchs.

ECHL: Forward Ernie Hartieb had a goal and an assist in his two games with Florida last week. Hartlieb now has three goals and two helpers in eight games.

Defenseman Mitch Ganzak recorded his sixth assist in nine games for Wheeling.

CHL: Goalie Charlie Effinger was called up by the Texas Stars of the AHL on Oct. 30, but he was released from his PTO two days later.

Effinger became the first player in Allen's brief history to earn a promotion to Triple-A.

Also, Effinger finally lost a game after starting the season with three straight wins and a sub-2.00 goals-against average for Allen. He still has

Effinger's GAA is still 2.26, and he has a 3-1 record.

Europe: Forward Randy Robitaille rolled up a goal and four assists in two games for Lugano (Switzerland). Robitaille leads his team in assists (18) and points (27).
