Cincinnati.com blog post

SARASOTA, Fla. -- It seemed only fitting that I start this farewell post where it all really started, here in lovely Sarasota.

At this very moment, I'm sitting at Maria's Chicken ready for yet another great meal but an Adam Dunn homer from the Reds' spring training complex. I'm down on Florida's gulf coast to serve as best man for my dear friend Marc Lancaster's wedding on Saturday.

It's been about a year since Marc took a job covering the Devil Rays for the Tampa Tribune and I realized my dream of covering Major League Baseball, and not just any big league squad, but the one that started it all -- the Cincinnati Reds. And what can I tell you? I had a blast.

And one of the biggest reasons I had such a great time was you and this blog. We built a community (with a generous and wonderful head start passed on by the afore mentioned Marc Lancaster, who preceded me on the Reds beat for the Cincinnati Post.

As most of you know, I will be the last Reds beat writer for the Cincinnati Post. The paper, a staple in the Queen City since 1881 Will be rolling the last issue off the press on Monday. It's a sad day for the people who have worked hard putting out the paper, but if you ask me, it'll be a sadder day for the city of Cincinnati. The city has lost an important and unique voice -- and in this day and age of more and more voice shouting to be heard, it's a sad day when a steady, calm voice is silenced.

As journalists, we live with constant deadlines, but Dec. 31, 2007 was a deadline in the most literal sense in the word. We all knew that this was the day that we'd be out of work. I knew that in March 2004 when I moved from Alabama to Cincinnati. I knew it then and I know it now and I've never regretted the decision for even an instant. I saw coming here as a way to achieve my goal of covering Major League Baseball and I succeeded.

I also succeeded because of the number of talented, dedicated journalists I've worked with at The Post. Everyone knew the limitations we were handed as the "underdog" paper and as an afternoon paper in a world that can't wait to get home from work to read the paper, or even wait for it to be physically printed on paper. The people I've worked with at The Post never used our numerous disadvantages as an excuse, instead it was treated as a challenge. It was like Avis, which has the slogan, "We try harder." That's what The Post did -- we tried harder. And as a result, we did beter. We took pride in what we did every day.

Starting with the man who hired me, former sports editor Frank Carini, I was led by example. No matter what jokes we had about "our reader" (note the singular) everyone worked their tale off to serve that reader (whom I dubbed Bob) the very best coverage of the local sporting scene that we could.

Please indulge me for a second as I tell you a little bit about these fine people who will be out of a job next week.

The week I accepted the job at The Post, I saw the future and was excited anyway. That week, Reds beat writer Tony Jackson left to take a job at the Los Angeles Daily News. We always congratulated those who got off the sinking ship, but that didn't mean we stopped paddling. Next, just as I started, we lost another talented journalist, Jason Williams. Jason left the UC beat to go work at the St. Paul Pioneer Press, leaving us not only a person down, but me a friend moving on just as I arrived in a new city.

Frank Carini was the next to leave, leaving us a huge void. However, we were lucky enough that the higher-ups moved Keith Herrell from the news side over to sports. Keith had the unenviable job of dealing with a sports writing staff -- one of the most thankless jobs in the world, plus doing the job of another person by working on the desk every night. Keith, who is now serving as the managing editor and the sports editor here in the last days of The Post, has never once complained, although he's certainly heard his fair share of complaints.

As noted above, dealing with writers is never easy. Writers, by and large, have an ego, and as good as our staff is, there's certainly enough ego to go around. It's the nature of the beast. And the people who deal with the brunt of the writers are those on the copy desk. It's a difficult and thankless job, especially at a place like The Post, where the typical desk shift is 9-to-5 -- p.m. to a.m. I have to tip the cap to Dan Hopwood, who doesn't have a fancy title, nor could one accurately describe the crap he puts up with. Dan had to deal with the writers the most directly, and also read our raw, unedited copy, which he was certainly not paid enough to do. But Dan, like the rest of the staff, always did everything with the goal of putting out the best product possible. We may not have always agreed with exactly what that meant, but we always had the same goal. And Dan will be working these last couple of days just as hard as he did the first, because in the end, The Post was a reflection of him and his work.

While Dan could cuss up a storm with the best of them (i.e., me), Dave Tippenhauer was the yin to his yang, the Teller to his Penn. Tippy never complains about anything, just goes out to do the best job possible. Tippy barely says anything (well, except at Frank's going-away party at his house when he took full advantage of home court), but just goes about his job. There's a reason we all love Tippy, and any organization will be better with him.

Then there are the unsung guys, John Lachmann and Tom Ramstetter. I'm not exactly sure how to explain what these guys do, but the short answer is everything. Trust me guys, it was noticed by those who worked with you and appreciated.

Then there's the writing staff.

Marc Lancaster -- Marc and I started at The Red & Black, the student newspaper at UGA, back in 1995. We've been friends since, working together at the R&B, then The Athens Daily News/Banner-Herald and finally here at The Post. You can't ask for a better friend or mentor, both roles Marc has served for me. (Or, as Hopwood would point out, the writer of the cleanest copy known to man. Unlike, well, me.) I'm honored to call Marc a friend and honored to know him as a professional.

Josh Katzowitz -- The third member of the Bulldog Mafia. I got to know Josh when I was covering UGA men's basketball for the Banner-Herald and he was doing the same for the R&B. Even then, with the exceptions of a misstep in Gainesville, I could tell this kid was a dogged reporter and an incredibly talented writer. Since he came to The Post, we've become great friends, and for that, I'm incredibly grateful.

Kevin "GoGo" Goheen -- I was introduced to Kevin on my interview here -- he tagged along for free dinner, as is his custom. And, as his custom, we had a few drinks afterward, too. You will never meet a better, more fun person than GoGo. The Bengals beat won't be the same without GoGo and his ever-present laugh. A Cincinnati native, GoGo can always be counted on to introduce the foreign members of The Post to his hometown, which he so dearly loves.

Terry Boehmker -- The nicest person on Earth. Honestly. And, well, also the person with the most knowledge of Kentucky High School sports. A good prep writer in this business is worth his weight in gold, and Terry's worth way more than that. Northern Kentucky doesn't know what it's losing, even if they think they do have an idea. Good thing I know I can always head to Herb and Thelma's and grab a beer with Terry. And trust me, I'm gonna take advantage of that.

Lonnie Wheeler -- Seriously, dude can put together words like nobody I've ever met. The most wonderful writer I've ever gotten to work with. Anyone who has read Lonnie's columns has undoubtedly had the moment where they've read a sentence and immediately reread it because it was so wonderful. It just sounds great and begs to be read aloud. A brilliant writer, Lonnie's also one of the kindest, most genuine people in the world. Although Josh and I would often pick on him, he always took it. And, he wasn't too bad at dishing it out himself. One of the funniest things I've ever heard was a couple of years ago when I was sent to cover the Flying Pig Marathon. Lonnie, there to write a column, looked at me and deadpan said, "It must be weird for you writing about one of these after running in so many." I still laugh at that one. The delivery was perfect.

I will miss every one of these people, not only because they are my friends, but also because they made me better at my job and a better person.

I'd also like to thank you guys. I started blogging for this site in earnest across the street at Ed Smith Stadium. That's where you were introduced to what I can only say is me, my flaws and everything. That's what I've enjoyed as much as anything. Part of being a journalist is playing things straight, just the facts ma'am reporting. That's what I tried to do for the newspaper, but the blog was different. The blog let me have fun, and I hope it allowed you to have fun as well. No, it wasn't always about baseball, but life isn't about baseball. There are days -- few, mind you -- that I don't want to think about baseball and want to just hang out with friends. I've been able to do that here. It reminds me of good bar conversation, you may be talking about baseball, but it can go all over the place -- music, movies, relationships, recollections, every different bit of life -- and it's a great time. That's what I had with you guys, a great time.

During spring training, someone said if I continued to do my blog like I did in the spring, I'd go crazy. Instead, it was the opposite. It kept me sane. Sure, it added about three hours of work to my day, but none of it seemed like work. That's because of you guys. Thank you, I can't think of anything more valuable.

And finally, I've been humbled by the number of emails I've received asking about my future. Honestly, right now I'm not too sure. I thought I had it all figured out at one time, but I don't right now. I'm lucky enough to have two opportunities -- one here in town and one out of town. Both are incredible opportunities working for good folks and prime jobs. I am interviewing out of town on Jan. 3, and honestly, as much as I love Cincinnati, it's doing a full-time baseball beat with all the travel and the entire spring training period. That's very important to me and something I've liked so much, I am entirely open to upping and moving once again, even if it means I won't have ready access to Skyline.

There's also an opportunity here in town that would be incredible, fun and challenging. It's an exciting new opportunity with people who are thinking forward and have some great ideas, and they want me to be involved. With that, this also won't be goodbye, just a chance to move to different surroundings. If that happens, let's just say the word will get out.

I hope to know my future by the second week of January, but there's still so much up in the air. All I know is that I'm gonna miss this spot (and even the terrible picture -- well, not that part). Thanks guys for everything.

Trent, you will be greatly missed. To be honest, when Marc left, I was skeptical about how well you'd be able to fill his shoes because he did such a great job with the blog. Little did I know that the student would surpass his teaching in the blog world. We all appreciated the way you intereactd with us, not just through the blog, but in the comments section. Whether goofy (asking me if I was "cheating" on you when Josh covered the blog one day) to serious Reds news, you were a fantastic beat writer. Having been involved in the journalism world, I know the craziness of your job, but you would never be able to tell.

Will you have a blog or site where we can keep up to date with you? We'd all love to know what happens with your future endeavors.

Regardless, thanks for all your hard work over the past year. You will be missed.

Trent,I won't bore you with a sob story or try to get all mushy on you - but I'll say this: this past summer was one of the more trying ones of my entire life as I've shifted into having to be a full-time adult (and one with a lot of responsibility and pressure). The bottom line is this blog was a fantastic release and escape from anxiety filled days. This whole blog was nothing but fun and fluff, which is something we all need regardless of what we do for a living.

So, thank you for adding those three hours to your day, and giving the rest of us something to look forward to each of ours.

God bless you, wherever you land.

When I stumbled on this blog I read it for a long time without posting. Mostly when Marc was running the show. He had great insight and is a hell of a writer but something about Trent made him come across as a buddy. No doubt it was the witty banter, occasional slams of as Mr. R says the nimrods who would pop up with the occasional personal shots. The movie, and music reviews. And calling us idiots when it was needed. I got turned on to some fine movies from this blog. Animal House, Superbad, and so on. Not really my kind of stuff till I started hanging out on line with you dope smokers. I will miss reading your posts on the Reds. Hell you'd think that Krivdawg could give you one last scoop for old times sake. Or at least let something leak for once. Many a night the wife was pissed at me last summer for hanging out on here shooting stuff back and forth the knuckleheads. But now I can say I have internet buddies. Thanks Trent. I feel a tear swelling up. Time for my first beer of the year.

I, too, stumbled across this "blog" and didn't post for some time (and don't post all that often, anyway). But I read. And enjoy.Wherever you should end up, I'm sure you will have the best of luck. For, as you noted, writers AREN'T all good. But you're one of the good ones. You've got the wit and buddy-ish pop-culture love of someone like Bill Simmons, without the snooty east-coastedness. You've also got the professionalism of a true sports writer when need be. So I'm sure you'll do swell wherever.

I'd love to see you try your hand at book-writing, a la a Chuck Klosterman or something (again, I think you'd be able to do so without the pretense and hipster affectations). Or, if you ever want to dabble in the children's publishing world, let me know.

Thank you, C. Trent (what's the "C" stand for, anyway?) for your work and your internet-buddyship. You're a peach, a gem, and a gentleman.

This is sooo depressing. I really like your sense of humor and the human element of the blog. John Fay is a good reporter, but reading his blog posts is like listening to Fred Thompson talk.Your cryptic words about the big secret project here in Cincy has me very interested in finding out what happens. Best of luck, you will be missed!!!

Ah yes, the ol' wife yelling because I've been on Trent's blog all night and watching the game on TV at the same time. Gotta love that stuff! Indeed this was a great blog, I can't believe I spent the first couple months just reading and not posting! What are we going to do people?!?!Hell of a job Trent, I'd go for the beat job. You've got one hell of an opportunity that I wish I had. Best of luck to you!

As for everyone else, you all are awesome. I'm sure this will continue on somewhere!!!

This is Donkey Dizzle!!

P.S. - Trent, if you take the beat job, you can bet your ass I'll find out where and what team and I'll be blogging on that blog if you have a blog for that beat. What a sentence.

P.S.S. - Word Ver. is "mygoto" no joke! Only fitting that my best go to source for Reds info was T-Rizzle Rosecrizzle!

Especially putting up with my ridiculous baseball fanboy-ism (is that even a word?) down at good ol' Gate 3, when I would yell at you on your way in.

I really hope you have as much fun in whatever direction your life takes you in the next few weeks, as you did here with us. I just hope that if you aren't around, I can find some reliable place to get my news, that I can enjoy as much as I have enjoyed this one...I can't read Fay (shudders).

Like many on here, I have posted little but did not miss a day of reading this blog. Like all the others I will miss reading this blog. I can honestly say that you and others made following the Reds even more interesting than they really were at times. You turned me on to some great new music (though not all of it was great to me), and I learned that even nimrods and dope smokers can have a good time together. Thank you for taking the extra time to make this blog successful. I wish you the best of luck in any endeavor that comes your way as I know you will be great at it.
Like others if you do cover another team please let us know so if nothing else we can show Clueless that you are very competent and that Blogger really does suck.

Trent,Sorry for the length, but this blog has been important to me.

I found this blog soon after it was started by your predecessor. I was in Iraq putting out a 16 page weekly newspaper by myself, I was the writer, photographer, layout designer and editor for the Air Force base I was on.

Needless to say I was busy, but I always took time out to read about what was going on with my team.

My sergeant I worked for was from St. Louis, and the Reds got off to a better start than the cardinals so I wanted all the info I could get.

When Marc left I was worried that whoever took over wouldn't be as thorough or as enjoyable to read.

Although I was no longer in Iraq, I was still in Colorado, far from friends and family with no good sports in the Colorado Springs Gazette.

Much to my surprise and delight, spring training got off to a bang with more information than anyone could ask for, and I started to visit this blog first thing everyday, and multiple times throughout the day.

Before I go on way too long, I would like to thank you on behalf of everyone who reads this blog multiple times a day, but rarely comment. You have been a part of more lives than you know.

I wish you well, and am interested to find out what you are doing after the Post closes.

very respectfully,
Jason Ridder

p.s. to everyone else, I hope the conversation continues on John Fay's blog or somewhere else. I'm not sure what I'll do if I cant get my trade ideas laughed at by Mr. Redlegs.

Trent:I've been a dedicated reader (and posted mainly back in the spring) and really enjoyed the blog. I didn't always appreciate some of the knuckle-heads (but aren't we all that way from time-to-time) or agree with everything you wrote, but I appreciated that it was "real" and you cared about what you were doing and took the time--a lot of time--to do it and to interact with all of these readers. I wish you the best and hope I have the opportunity to keep reading your work.

Trent,I'm sorry this day is finally upon us. I've enjoyed your writing for the last several years (aside from the UGA slant subtly dropped into your blogging - and by the way, they DID get screwed out of a shot at the nat'l title. Where does it say in the rules that you have to be in your conference championship to make the BCS title game? Last I checked, when you're #4, and #1 & #2 drop out, you should get to move up. But #9 doesn't become...nevermind...I lost my train of thought). As I was...

Since your days on the UC beat, I've always seen you as a "professional writer" and shared, not necessarily opinion, but observation. Candid observation - but always honest. As a biased-Huggins/Bearcat fan, I appreciated that. Especially from how much I used to hear that the media was "anti-Huggins." You definitely were not. You were/are "pro-story / pro-facts."

I'm not sure if I know anyone more excited when you moved to the Reds beat than I was (aside from Corey probably and obviously you, for that matter). But I was pretty pumped. Made me happy to hear you on during the 2nd inning. I really enjoyed your rapport with the on-air celebs. Always had me cracking up.

As one person has already posted, for selfish reasons I hope you stick in Cincy (though I'm not in Cincinnati, I appreciate your insight on the teams that are important to me. However, your passion being baseball, I hope you have the pleasure of enjoying spring training and the season once again very soon. I just might have to start following another baseball team so I read your blog.

Trent, I wish you nothing but the best. Thanks for everything you've done. It's been a pleasure.

We're all going to be much less informed next year, since you (and Tony and Marc and Josh) always worked about 10 times harder than competition.Keep in touch. You're always welcome to stop by our site and say hello, or let us know where you land and we'll be sure to follow your work.

Happy New Year, and good luck.

Okay I can't take this sappy stuff anymore. We can't let this blog close out with this much love.
We need a good old fashioned cincypost blog rant. That's one of the charms. Like provoking Mr. R into a tirade. I finally got him to call me one of his pet names by throwing Colon's name out on the last thread. Is there noone out there who would like to raise the ire of the Dizzlemister by throwing out a Dunn for Jay Gibbons trade. Or a good old we should trade Matt Belisle for Johan Santana and Joe Mauer. Or better yet why didn't Kriv trade Gonzo and Stanton for Cabrera and Willis. Now that is what has made this blog one of the best I've ever come across. Throw in a little Rosecran, mix in a bit of Amy, with a light pinch of Patrick and you've got gold. Now I'm tired, time for that second beer of the year. Trent I hope you tip well at the bachelor party.

VA,If we're going to get Cabrera and Willis from the Tigers, they'll need a third baseman too, and probably a second reliever as well. So how bout this:

The Tigers get:

Ryan Freel
Alex Gonzalez
Mike Stanton
Todd Coffey

The Reds get:

Miguel Cabrera
Dontrelle Willis

Why, oh why would both teams not do that deal?!?!

Trent --I'm late to the party and everyone else has said what must be said. So, I'll just say thank you. Thank you so much.

I've enjoyed this blog every day since I found it early last season, and I hope it somehow does as much good for you as it has done for us.

Take care.

P.S. Of course, blogger ate my first post!

at 12/27/2007 11:18 PM Blogger RedScoop said...

OK, OK, OK. Here's the semi-serious part. Thanks, Trent. You adopted Marc's loveable (but not lucrative) orphan blog and made it your own. (Geez, did I just quote Paula Abdul? Mr RL should have a field day.)

It's sooo appropriate that you were at Maria's because -- as with most things in life -- things come full circle.

Here's why. Most of us can recount the hilarious details of the Spring Training blogs when the games were meaningless. Meanwhile, tonight I struggled to remember which teams were in this year's World Series.

So, that's baseball right? It's a lot more about the experience and the comradeship than about what the scoreboard says. In fact, ultimately, who cares. Because the people with whom you enjoy baseball mean everything.

So, we all hope you find CC. But we hope you find her in Cincinnati.

As for your work with the blog, all I can say is ...

YAYYAYYAYYAYYAYYAY!

Trent, thanks for the memories. I got totally hooked on the blog in spring training and have checked it at least once a day since. Love the inside baseball, the humor, music, movie and bar b que talk, and of course the lovely and intelligent Amy who I would never REALLY stalk. Too bad tht rumor got started. Also props to Mr. Redlegs, Scoop, VA, Donk, Gene in WV, Docproc, Batsfan, Bubbafan, Griz and many others. I'm gonna miss you all and hopefully we'll meeet again on another blog. My contact information is mrr52@earthlink.net but please don't contact me to falsely accuse me of anything untoward!

Best of luck, CTR!

Thank you C. Trent and everyone else on here. I know I didn't that much, but I have been an avid reader since the Lancaster days. Thank you for the insight into what was happening with the Reds. CTR i enjoyed hearing you on the radio when you and the Bad Boy did it, maybe you could take over one of the shows around here. But seeing how the shelf life of the radio hosts around here it isn't a real steady job. Good luck in whatever you choose to do.

I only found your blog last season. It quickly became part of my daily routine. I only posted once and this is it. I just loved to read your posts and others comments. You talked about your co-workers being so talented, it is obvious you belonged with them. You are one of a few columns I enjoy every day. Hal in Dayton being the top. Good luck on you future, and continued success.

Well, it's almost a party. BatsFan made an appearance (but has yet to send his contact info).Speaking of which. . . .

As a reminder, for those coming in late and not reading very high on this thread, please note:

Before this blog goes dark on Monday, and for those who are regulars and want to continue blogging on the Reds in the near future, please send me your contact info at:

mrredlegs@hotmail.com
or

Reason: In case CTR leaves Cincinnati, someone will start a new blog for everyone to join. This space has become a huge family and community, and no one wants to see massive collated divorce and weeping.

If CTR stays in Cincinnati, we all know where to go (Hell, then a layover in Atlanta, then frisked and pick-pocketed by Delta en route to CVG). I'll then gladly forward all the contacts to CTR so he can let you know where he has moved.

At last check the contacts list was north of six dozen. Amazin'.

And yet, still no Clueless, who continues blog anonymously (not so much) over at Fay's blog. Ya know, because Krivsky is such a failure.

at 12/29/2007 8:06 PM Blogger Amy said...

Hey Mr. R., speaking of Delta, explain this airline logic (oxymoron?) to me: a direct flight from Cincy to Sarasota costs MORE than one from Columbus to Sarasota with layovers in Cincy and/or Atlanta. Wha??

Is this blog really going to vanish? All of Trent's play-by-plays? Batsfan's Bats stories? Amy's adventures on Jeopardy? RedScoop's ever-changing avatars? Sniff.

at 12/29/2007 8:48 PM Blogger Frank Robinson's Ghost said...

Amy --Market economics and pure desirability. Direct flights are mnore expensive in general because people like them better.

Also -- flying anywhere out of Cincy is more expensive than flying a comparable distance out of an airport with competition. Delta and its Subs have a lockdown on CVG -- most inflated prices in the nation.

So you want to stalk me, eh redscoop? Why's that? For everyone here: I was thinking about starting a Reds blog for all of us from CTrent's blog. Obviously, I wouldn't get all the inside info CTR has, but still, it would be fun to talk Reds together. What are your thoughts?

at 12/29/2007 9:25 PM Blogger Laura said...

PS - I see Mr. Redlegs was talking about doing one, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't do myspace (too many viruses and hackers for me). I'd do mine on blogspot.

I like it. Reds blogs all over. We can consider Trent to be the Bill Walsh of Reds blogs. Disciples all over the net. Otter changed to color. It would be pretty cool if we could set up a site were a couple of us could go in and do edits and posts.

at 12/30/2007 12:10 AM Blogger Amy said...

Thanks, Frank's Ghost--it seems so counterintuitive to me--if it takes more of their resources, it should cost more--but since I fly out of Columbus, I won't complain. I was just surprised to see the numbers because I normally only "pay" for flights with my husband's frequent flyer miles--apparently I've been a bit--um--extravagant with them lately and will actually have to pony up some real money for my Spring Training getaway :)

Laura: Yes, yes, I know you aren't exactly available. However, Amy already has her fair share of (harmless) stalkers. So, it only seems fair that - as we near the end - all our ladies get assigned at least one. And, if one of you ladies wants to stalk Batsfan, too, I think he's available. My memory may be totally wrong. But I thought I remembered that you are (or were) somewhere near Sarasots and Maria's chicken. If so, myself, River Otter, VA, DD, Gene from WVA, and other livestock can all sleep on your couch during Spring Training. (That will save from having to split those pesky Motel 6 bills.) Besides, do you know how long it takes Donkey Dizzle to do his hair in the morning?

Cool, we're all meeting in Sarasota for spring training. Should be fun. :-)Va - I got to playing around with the website and couldn't stop. We'll see if I actually keep it updated on a semi-frequent basis. I love all the gadgets on your site. I also like your idea of having site where multiple people can do posts.

Trent - Any word on your Reds site?

Thanks Amy, that's my little Red. Trying to keep her from the dark side of my wife's beloved Red Sox. She's fascinated with Donkey's Dizzle and Otters pics. I'm sure if you had posted yourself dressed like some of those pics you'd have blown my views away. Right Hugh!!! I kid, I kid.Otter messing around with those blogs can get addictive. Before you know it a couple hours have gone by.

So I wonder how this is going to go down. Will the blog suddenly go dark like the Sopranos? Will we all suddenly think our screens have gone out. Ah hell this sucks. And now I find out tonight my oldest daughter somehow became a Pats fan. Two years ago it was the Steelers. My kid the original band wagon leader.

Folks, we're down to the last day or so of this fine establishment. Drinks are on Clueless, ol' buzzard. The contacts info for the future blog has been pouring in and we're now north of seven dozen people who want to tag along to any new space.A very odd thing: Early this morning seven consecutive e-mailers stated they rarely, if never, posted but read this space every day.

Meanwhile, to answer a few quick questions:

* Laura, if I have to start a new blog it will not be on MySpace but will be web-based.

* In talking with some designers and programmers, the suggestion has been strongly made that a Blogger machine format be continued. Yeah, it sux, but the point is good: most of this community has existing handles or log-ins, and most are all familiar with the Blogger ways and means, good and bad. Mostly bad. So we'll see.

* I'm not planning too far ahead because there's still a 50-50 chance CTR stays in Cincinnati.

But just in case . . . .

Before this blog goes dark on Monday or so, and for those who are regulars and want to continue blogging on the Reds in the near future, please send me your contact info at:

mrredlegs@hotmail.com
or
www.myspace.com/goredlegs

Reason: In case CTR leaves Cincinnati, someone will start a new blog for everyone to join. You will receive notification of where this great community of Redlegs worshipers can congregate again.

If CTR stays in Cincinnati, I'll gladly forward all the contacts to him so he can let you know where he has moved.

Mr. R

new random commentsaw some wii owners out there, check out MLB Power Pros baseball. it's the best baseball video game i've played since World Series Baseball '98 on the Sega Saturn. you play with silly cartoon characters somewhat reminiscent of Fisher Price Little People. the gameplay has just the right amount of depth, as most baseball video games have become tedious and weighed down in too many realistic details.

the only notable reds roster omission from the game was a-gon. but keppinger can be called up to replace generic-gon

its good to know ctr has work lined up already, good luck Chuckie T
