Redlegs v. Leatherpants 5.24

C. Trent Rosecrans Cincinnati.com blog post 5/24/07

My sources tell me Gary Majewski is in the building. I've heard rumblings about which pitcher named after a beverage has been sent down, but have not confirmed that yet. You know I will as soon as I get it.

Freel cf Gonzalez ss Griffey rf Phillips 2b Conine 1b Dunn lf Encarnacion 3b Ross c Belisle p Leatherpants: Lopez 2b Guzman ss Zimmerman 3b Church lf Kearns rf Young 1b Schneider c Logan cf Bacsik p And now the transaction is official, just popped up in my inbox -- Coffey down, Majewski in. In another transaction, Enrique Cruz has cleared waivers and was been taken off the 40-man roster, which now stands at 39 players
  • talked to josh, he said he'll be joining the bats next week to play at charlotte and durham before rejoining the team in st louis
  • It's Ladies' Night here at Great American Ball Park (as opposed to Casa de Rosecrans, where it's always Ladies' Night) and the only difference I've noticed is that apparently it gives Lisa and Tara free reign to pick on me. Which, well, I guess like Ladies' Night at Case de Rosecrans, is every night. Although, oddly, mostly Tara talked about her flatulence. "Like most women, I rarely toot," I believe, was the quote. Seriously. Too bad fellas, she's taken.Oh, and the Ladies get pink Reds hats with rhinestones. It actually looked very good on Lisa and Tara, mistakenly, thinks it goes with her shirt. It doesn't. But I didn't see it on her, so maybe it's better if it's on her head. I don't know. I was hoping George Vogel would do a live shot in the pink hat, I'm guessing he'd look really, really good. Especially with his usual chaps.
  • Seriously, if you find that you share similar musical tastes to my own (well, not the Wilco side, but the rockin' side) you really must check out the Scott Ford Radio Show on Little Radio. Every Thursday, and, well, it's incredible today. I haven't laughed so hard in a while. Still bummed I lost the win a date with Gwen haiku contest. I honestly thought my haiku was third-best, but certainly better than one of the finalists and not as good as the other. Scott said he loved mine, but Gwen picked. Oh well.
  • Top 1: Hey, how about that, Lopez gets out to start the game. We've even got a lady doing the pa on Ladies' Night, and I've got to watch myself because Lisa's sitting next to me. Oh yeah, Jerry got testy with me about first-inning runs last night. Well, it's 1-0. Guzman homers. Anyway, I get the feeling Lisa's just sitting here to be close to Goheen, and really, who can blame her? It was Guzman's first homer since Sept. 15, 2005. Yeah. Good omen. And that's it. Leatherpants 1, Deadlegs 0
  • Bottom 1: Nice play by Kearns to rob Gonzo. Griffey tried to bunt on the shift, but it was foul. Nice idea. Kearns records all three outs. Leatherpants 1, Deadlegs 0
  • Top 2: It's really dead here. Well, I guess it's obvious why, but still. It's about as quiet as it is on Ladies' Night at Casa de Rosecrans. 4-6-3 DP. Leatherpants 1, Deadlegs 0
  • Bottom 2: I'm guessing Dunn homers in this game. Brandon Phillips came out to BP with the high pants showing red legs, and Lisa said he should keep it for the game. He ignored her, and look what he gets? 6-3. And some guy nobody has ever heard of still has the no-hitter going. Leatherpants 1, Deadlegs 0
  • Top 3: Lisa 's leaving me. Goheen is off to try to find people and she doesn't want to be alone with me. Can't say that's the first time a woman hasn't wanted to be alone with me. After reading over my shoulder, Lisa then said, 'you're horrible.' Unfortunately, that's not the first time I've heard that one, either. 1-2-3 for Belisle. Leatherpants 1, Deadlegs 0
  • Bottom 3: Looks like my sister and niece are gonna get pink Reds hats. And Matt Belisle breaks up the perfect game with a walk. Who had that in the pool? Leatherpants 1, Deadlegs 0
  • Top 4: A single up the middle then an infield single. Church pops up to EE to bring up Kearns with 1 out and runners on 1 & 2. Single, RBI. Nice throw by Dunn, but Guzman just beat it. And another. 3-0. And the Reds still dont' have a hit. Leatherpants 3, Deadlegs 0
  • Bottom 4: And there goes the no-no, Gonzo singles up the middle. And blogger sucks. Two-game hitting streak for BP. 6-4-3. Leatherpants 3, Deadlegs 0
  • Top 5: Blogger really sucks. Freel nearly doubled-up Lopez at first, but the ball hit him. If we were playing peg, he woulda been out. God, the game is so much better when you can peg people. . Leatherpants 3, Deadlegs 0
  • Bottom 5: Told you. Dunn homers. 3-1. Leatherpants 3, Deadlegs 1
  • Top 6: He giveth and he taketh away. Dunn dives for a ball he didn't need to, a doubel for Young and Kearns scores. Leatherpants 4, Deadlegs 1
  • Bottom 6: Just talking to Sheldon. I remember the most important topic of conversation among beat writers -- hotels, restaurants and flights. St. Louis is a bad hotel town. Leatherpants 4, Deadlegs 1
  • Top 7: 6-4-3 DP to end it. After recent starts, 7 innings, 4 runs is a decent outing for the Redlegs. Unfortuantely they've only got a run of their own and just 3 hits. Leatherpants 4, Deadlegs 1
  • Bottom 7: BP is swinging like he did during his 22-game streak, lining a shot to left for a single. He had a tough one on the little looper by Conine to second, but was able to get back to first in time. Dunn's hit two ropes foul. The second one, a bomb, was just foul, you could tell on the replay. And he strikes out. Goheen called that one, but it's not like he went out on a limb. Leatherpants 4, Deadlegs 1
  • Top 8: We've got teh Mr. Reds race, and I wouldn't bet on this one no matter what odds you gave me, we all know Rosie's gonna win on Ladies' Night. And yeah, it's the Wonder Woman race. Salmon in. A 1-2-3 8th, how about that? Nice job by Salmon and a real nice play by Brandon Phillips as well. Leatherpants 4, Deadlegs 1
  • Bottom 8: Fick in at first. Bacsik still going strong. And why not? Hopper is on deck in the pitcher's spot. Ross tried to bunt his way on. How about that? I guess that's taking them by surprise. A shot by David Ross to third for a single. And Hopper hitting. Great bunt by Hopper. Guy is a bunting machine. Ross was a bit too aggressive on that. The ol' 4-5-1 double play. Liner to Lopez, throw gets away and Ross isn't very fast. Two outs for Gonzo. Give Bacsik credit there. Looks like it cost them a tie. Gonzo homers. 4-3. That's it for Bacsik. I think he ust learned what balls do in this place. Nice outing by Bacsik. Lefty Billy Traber in to face Junior. I just called yard -- let's see if my streak continues. Oh well. He did nearly kill Traber. Leatherpants 4, Deadlegs 3
  • Top 9: Well, it is Ladies' Night. Jon Coutlangus is in. Wow, Nook can actually hit the ball. He singles. Traber out, Batista in. A brief Coutlangus stint and it looks like we're getting Majewski. Majewski hits Batista, but at least he did it at 92 mph, bring up Lopez. His second and third pitches to Lopez were 94 -- not sure he ever hit 94 up here a year ago. Majewski gets Lopez to fly out. Majewski's first two pitches to Guzman were both 95. Fay said he remembers him touching 93 at times last season. Nice job by Majewski. Leatherpants 4, Deadlegs 3
  • Bottom 9: I do love the Animal House clip going into the bottom of the ninth. Langerhans in, batting fourth. Cordero pitching. Opponets are hitting .305 off of him and he has a 3.54 ERA. He has 5 saves in 9 chances. Nice at-bat by Phillips, who stated swinging from his heels, but then watched four pitches to walk to bring up Conine and Dunn. Jerry, Conine's business cards say "Professional Hitter" not "Professional Bunter" 4-5-3 DP ends it. And this one belongs to the NationalsThe Reds now have the worst record in baseball. POSTGAME: Nothing too exciting. Jerry: "If there’s a, right now our guys are trying so hard to make something happen as much as anything. I’m sure (Ross) looked up and saw nobody was covering and took off." On Majewski: "We did not see anywhere near that velocity last year and that’s great to see. He looks like he can really help us. ... It was the guy we saw a couple of years ago." Matt Belisle: "I think I’m so stubborn that I’m not going to give in out there. I think that’s an easy out, an easy way to look at it, when a team’s scuffling, to say it’s not going our way or every ball’s going to find a hole. I think that’s an excuse. You have to turn the page from every bad inning, every bad night and just be ready to go. I don’t know. We look up and the Nationals just took the series from us and that’s hard to take. But we’ve got Pittsburgh, so there’s no time to sulk." Gary Majewski: "Physically, I’m 100 times better." "Last year, I’d throw and it was still firm but it didn’t have the extra life and movement on it to get out in front. It’s night and day compared to last year." "I’ve wanted to do that for eight months, or however long it’s been since the trade, almost a year, now, I guess. I’ve wanted to show the fans and my teammates that they made a good decision by bringing me over here. I’ll just take things from this, keep the ball down in the zone and good things will happen." FYI, the Reds have a worse record than the Rangers, who didn't play today. The Reds are 18-30, the Rangers are 18-29. Just sayin' And that's why he's a Hall of Famer -- Hal McCoy was sporting the pink Reds hat from Thursday night's Ladies' Night promotion and I mentioned to him that with the rhinestones, it was a very nice look for him. He laughed and said, "The team should have to wear these until they win a series."

Good! A positive move that (hopefully) won't prove to be inconsequential. Glad to see Krivsky do that, despite having given Coffey the extension.

Jaybee, Bray had a set back, unfortunately. I think as soon as he's ready Stanton will be gone. I also think trades and other moves are imminent. The season is lost. Time to rebuild. Accept offers for Dunn, Griffey, whoever. Go young, go cheap. Spend money next year.

Posted this in C-Trent's last post, but now that he has a new one I wanted to post it here. The Reds have trailed in the first inning in six of their last 12 games and lost four of those games. "I don't think it's bothered our players. They grind it out," Narron said. "We got down tonight and we're still grinding. I don't think I've ever heard anyone on the bench say, 'Oh my, we've given up two runs in the first inning again.'" That's an interesting quote by Narron...because it sure as hell would bother me if I played on the Reds and I bet it bothers 99% of the fans. I doubt Bob is a big fan of it either.

at 5/24/2007 3:05 PM cincikid said...

I honestly believe that the point that Narron was trying to get across is that his players didn't give up as soon as the Nats posted 2 runs in the first. Right now, Narron is in the position that what ever he says is going to be scrutinized by the fans and by some of the media. Is that brought on by himself? Maybe. Is it wrong that we scrutinize? No, fans are customers and we are never wrong. Maybe misinformed or short tempered at times but not wrong.

at 5/24/2007 3:07 PM Chris at Redleg Nation said...

That's the right move. I hope Majew can right his particular mulleted ship.On another note, I'm not on the "fire Narron" bandwagon. While I think the move would be defensible, I don't know that it solves anything. Except. If they're going to sell off the vets and go with a youth movement, which might eat up this year and next, there are probably better managers for that job. There aren't many managers who are comfortable putting their jobs in the hands of younger players, but Jerry Narron certainly isn't one.

at 5/24/2007 3:18 PM ctrosecrans said...

agree with you on the narron thing, chris -- of course, i know that just makes me a homer

I know we've heard a lot of this "It's too early to panic" stuff, but is it? It's been 3 weeks now and the play of this team has not changed. Do you wait another 3 week? I don't think you should wait another 3 days. It's obvious that this team does not have the makeup to be successful. Here is my take. The starting pitching has been very inconsistent. Even Harang's ERA is in the 5s. Arroyo got tattooed his last time out and Lohse has just been plain lousy. I don't even want to talk about Milton. The bullpen has been terrible, with the exception of Weathers, and that's putting it mildly. The hitting has been woefully mediocre, at best. The power has been good, but situational hitting is probably the worst in the league. The team has too many strikeout guys and not enough contact guys. Ross and Dunn will combine for over 350 strikeouts, WOW. The defense has not improved from last year. Even Gonzalez has more errors already this year then he had all of last year. Dunn looks lost in left and we know about the problems at third. The bench has got to be the worst in baseball. Other than Valentin, there is just no pop there. I don't think the opposing manager is going to worry too much when you bring up Moeller, Castro or Hopper to bat. Ouch. No wonder the Reds have the worst record in baseball. With so many holes, it almost takes playing a perfect game every night just to win. There is just no margin for error. As far as Narron, I don't know if any manager could help this team. Maybe if they could find someone who could really motivate and get them playing above their heads. It's time to start fresh. If an engine isn't working, you keep the parts that are still good, get rid of the broken parts and get new parts that work.

Is Homer on the 40 man roster. I don't believe he is so its possible that he will be recalled. They would need the roster space to do that.

ohioredsfan, I don't believe Giradi would take this job. Not even if you made him the highest paid manager in baseball. Not only is he waiting for the Torre or LaRussa to retire or get fired there is no way he would manage a team half way into the season. I would say the only managers that are out there this year is Rick Sweet or Bucky Dent. Take your pick. I'll stick with Narron for this season.

Found a couple of quotes on a website about leather-pants...pretty funnyThe first one might explain Bowden's train of thought.... I can explain these pants and why they are in my possession. I bought them many, many years ago under the spell of a woman whom I believed to have taste. She suggested I try them on. I did. She said they looked good. I wanted to have a relationship of sorts with her. I'm stupid and prone to impulsive decisions. I bought the pants. Possible reasons why none of us own them.... I have not worn these leather pants for the following reasons: I am not a member of Queen. I do not like motorcycles. I am not Rod Stewart. I am not French. I do not cruise for transvestites in an expensive sports car. A guideline to live by?.... Again, they're men's pants, but they'd probably look great on the right lady. Ladies can get away with leather pants much more often than men can. It's a sad fact that men who own leather pants will have to come to terms with.

I don't think Girardi would be interested. He's got a young family, and he says he doesn't want to move them, except to New York or Chicago (where he already has homes). He turned down the Nats for that reason. He's now working as a broadcaster for YES, the Yankees network. His name is often mentioned as a possible successor to Torre, who will probably be gone by the end of this year, if not earlier. I don't know if he'll get the job, but I think he'll want to be free to accept it, should it become available.

Thanks Bubba and Cincikid, Makes more sense to take the Yankees job than here and really who could blame him. Was just wondering. I really have no problem with Narron. You can only do so much with what you have. Not even sure Stengal or Durocher or even Sparky could do anything with this bunch.

at 5/24/2007 4:46 PM Greg said...

Stengel, Durocher and Sparky all managed some pretty horrible teams in their day.

at 5/24/2007 4:48 PM ohioredsfan said...

Greg, Yes they did but they also dealt with a different breed of player. Can you imagine Durocher managing some of these guys now. Might be interesting to see him do a little attitude adjustment.

If you ask Kevin about Girardi, it's all about the money. He seems to think if you throw enough money at a guy he'll want to coach the team.I think everything that has been said about Girardi and his feelings of wanting to coach in NY or Chi-town are accurate.

at 5/24/2007 4:56 PM dgw said...

Prediction: Majewski will pitch well tonight. He'll be fine tomorrow night. On Saturday the Pirates will touch him up for a run or two. Sunday afternoon his arm will fall off, just like all the other relievers, but he'll stay in the game until four or five Pirates have scored in the eighth inning. There is no rest for the wicked ... or for Reds relief pitchers.

So CTR, it's almost 6:30, half-hour before first pitch . . .How many of last night's revelers who called you a company man/lackey/pawn and dismisses your job as anything more than a goober who eats free food in the pressbox and hob-nobs with the stars has their notebook written, their early plug-in feature done, will write a running game story and file the instant of last pitch, then have to submit a write-thru lede with quotes within an hour of game ending? Not to mention handling the blog live. Then do it again tomorrow, and 113 more times this season? Piece of cake. No pressure. Real cushy job. Some of you are damned fools. And yet, about the only thing you really know about the Reds is what the beat writers tell you. Odd, how that works.

Of course they are fools. Their arguments are logical. It's always about the manager. The breakfast people who keep changing the price of my morning bagel? I swear it started out at 1.50 and not it's 1.97. Sure, they're Korean but that doesn't mean that I can't fault them for the Reds slide.

i'm not bashing him, just wanted to throw that one out there. By looking at last night's replay over and over and over and over.... he seemed to be ahead of himself causing him to lose his transaction from glove to hand, but is that the case with everyone? Are they all playing like it's the seventh and deciding game of the world series? Maybe something to watch during the game tonight.

at 5/24/2007 7:03 PM Mr. Redlegs said...

No, Chad, I won't. Last night's thread was an absurd testimony to the mindset of many Reds fans these days. They participate in the man's blog, He takes time torespond from in-game duties that are beyond pressureful, and it turned into a lynch-mob mentality. Over what? If you don't agree with him, fine. But have some respect for the fact he is at work, has unforgiving deadlines, and he responds (see John Fay's blog in-game) is a bonus, yet taken for gross advantage. Here's an idea: Tomorrow we'll get 325 posters to come to your work and heckle for three hours. Somehow, you'll still be home by 7p for dinner . . . right about the time of first pitch, when the beat guy's night is only in the middle.

sac, with all due respect a run is a run regardless of the inning, more importantly right now, do you think there are any Reds, saying "here we go again"...now 2 sides to that, he more often than not this year has worked through this and settled down; but, others have not, especially recently, Harang, Arroyo, Loser, etc....it's a long game, but, a run is run, just like people who say a loss in April means nothing, think again....

By the way, some people have asked what replacing Narron would do. Here's one idea. Maybe a renewed focus on advanced scouting and preparation. Instead of "play the game the right way" the Reds seem to fail to do their homework and "prepare the game the right way". Time and time again the Reds face a pitcher they've never faced before that isn't good, just new, and totally stink up the joint on offense. Example number 472: this Bascik guy.

Thanks Kevin- Sounds like the contacts are really working out for him.How about Dunn? Seems like he is REgressing defensively. Yeah, it was great that he hit his nice solo homerun, but did that make up for his terrible play early in the game that resulted in 1 (or 2?) runs? Either way, I don't think it did. He's got 3 'errors' this year, but I'd say he's made more than twice that number in misplayed balls. If Votto is still playing LF on a regular basis I say it's time to trade Dunn. His value right now (to a team in the AL for DH purposes) is about as high is it's gonna get. Why else would Votto be playing LF? I know he's an above average 1st baseman but it feels like the Kriv is up to something..... and I hope I'm right.

We can hope Mr Red, but right now, you would really have to look hard to find a bright spot on this team. At least the 82 team had all of the good young players to look forward to. We have..Homer nad....

Actually I neglected to mention that Votto had two errors at 1st base in the game to bring his season total up to 5.

Meat - Hope you're wrong about Dunn. Even with his flaws, he's still the best run producer on the team. I'd expect Votto to be up sometime this summer after we've unloaded Hatteberg near the trading deadline.

Too bad about the boots at 1st, but maybe Votto is better suited in LF? They could put EE at 1st if Votto plays well in left field. (If they move Dunn, of course.) I'm sure there is some AL team that would take on Dunn's 10 Mil (La Angels?) and provide the reds with some more pitching and perhaps a prospect who is 2 or 3 years away. Also on Votto: I see on the bats site that he is 3 for 4 tonight to bring his avg. up to .310 on the year. I'd say the Kriv will have made some kind of trade in the next 3 or 4 weeks. He could sit on his hands and do nothing, but is past history tells us anything it's not in his "modus operandi" to just sit on his hands and let this team trudge along for the rest of the year.

I should say Dunn is the best run producer not named Griffey on the team (at least so far this year).

Forget it. The pic(s) I was trying to show was Dunn's 'effort' to catch Dmitri Youngs 'double' early in the game. It's on the Reds team page at Yahoo. Unless they've changed the pictures again. He looks like a football player or something trying to play major league baseball. Oh? what? He played a bit of Football in college? Ok, that might explain it

Here's a Veritable Cornucopia of Dunn's gaffes in the outfield (sprinkled in with what he does good- and that's what the chicks dig)http://sports.yahoo.com/search?p=adam%20dunn&photos=1&sp=1&ep=10 I'm done with Dunn.

Which is why he plays left field :)I'll be interested to hear what Narron has to say about his brilliant decision to have Conine bunt in the ninth Oh, and this just in, blogger sucks. Although it's not bad for freeware.

Looks like the Tigers were interested in aquiring Dunn over the winter:http://www.gothambaseball.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=907 I've also heard the Dunn to the White Sox and the Dodgers rumors, but all of the above are just that, rumors. I still think he's about the only position player that would be 'tradeable', and I think he will be dealt by the end of June. So I'll take the credit if it happens, and I'll eat the crow if I'm way off base on this one. Goodnight all, MEAT (Somebody get it to 200!!)

I'm glad to see that Dunn's still the problem with this team. Guy has a .309 EQA - second only to Griffey. And his defense is dramatically improved.I find it comical that he's being criticized for diving for a ball tonight, when St. Ryan of Farney gets slobbered on for fruitless dives every day.

And Waylon's top notch. Anyone a Shooter fan?

at 5/25/2007 2:34 AM Lefty said...

the problem with dunn chris is that he can't hit good pitching. the stat analysis is great but it comes against the bottom quarter of major league pitcher, which btw happen to be in the game when it is less important.it's the difference between griffey and dunn, imo. griffey can hit anybody at anytime... dunn can't.

on votto, when did 1B become the defensive capital of mlb... i always thought you stuck your worst defensive player at 1B... he may suck defensively but he could rake....which is why i never understood dunn in lf... prototypical major league 1B.... whether he likes to play there or not

If the roster is at 39 then something is about to happen. What do you think that could be?>??Maybe a trade of the whole Reds team for one of the minor league teams. They are kicking some serious butt. Bringing up the young kids as worked well for the Angels, but they have people working there that know what talent is. I wish the Reds could fine someone like that. All I see out of the Reds is to pick up players that other teams who must know more about talent than the Reds have kicked off their team because they want to win.(insert picture of Lohse). I would like to see you C.Trent defend him now like you did on Mother's day. What was the line, oh yeah "you're going to judge Loshe on a 1-4 record and a 4.01 era". I think that was it. No I think I will judge him on the fact that he sucks. I know bullpens cost pitchers wins (esp in Cincy) and that defence and help cause losses, but from what I have seen Loshe has earned everyone of his. DFA this bum and get a rook up. Yeah and fire Narrow and the front office, bring in some monkey's couldn't look any worst. And by the way, We Reds fans are not K.C. fans and I don't care what their problems are. That is a dumb statement in my view, oh you Reds fans are too negative and on that note have you ever heard how negative Marty is? Then you insult us farther but saying try being a Royals fans.If I wanted to be a Royals fan that what I would be. One more thing, if you hate Cincinnati soooooo much C.Trent why are you here? Can't get a job in your Georgia? If you think it is so great why don't you go the hell back now there. Catch a clue and pull your head out of your ass. I sure you will not be around next season. So go on and B@@#$% about us Reds fans all you want. You sports writters kill me. The team sucks, fans say the team sucks, and that we should get more for our money, and you say that Wins for a pitcher is an over rated stat. I say it must be an underrated stat for the Reds, cause they sure don't bother doing it very often. But I guess we should just say oh well another lousy team, HOORAY. No we fans say something about how a player is stinking up the field and we are way too negative. But it doesn't stop you from being negative does it Trent? (third of season, not even out of May and what was your committ? Something to effect that this season is over. Over with a wild card still in play and almost 2/3 of season left. Now there's upbeat for you. Thanks for showing the poor Reds fans the light oh great CTR.

Umm - Trent - after the game did no one ask Narron about having Conine bunt in the 9th inning? Wasn't that a significant play in the game? Was the question asked, but the answer unprintable? Or is it considered bad form to question a manager about those types of decisions?

Anybody else find OldTimey's post unbearable to read because of the incorrect word usage and bad grammar? -Shudders- What sense I could make of it seemed really uncalled for. Again, if you don't like what Trent has to say, go find another Reds blog. Lord knows there are plenty of other ones out there.FWIW, I agree with Trent 98% of the time...ESPECIALLY on the booing. Chris At RN, loves me some Shooter. That dude is TINY if you ever see him up close. CAPadgett, great use of the word jackanapes! I haven't heard that one in a while, lol.

Ol' Timey Redsfan,How the hell are you going to tell Trent to leave? Dumbass it's his blog and you are a guest on his blog! You don't have to agree with his views like I'm sure that Trent does not agree with yours. I hope Lohse is extended for no other reason than to piss you off! Really, I'm a Reds fan and knowing how much it would piss me off to see the Reds lose every fifth day that Lohse is one the mound there would still be that little side of me that would be smiling knowing that it was pissing you off more.

Foxsports has a report up that discusses the "great possibility" of the reds exploring a trade with Ken Griffey Jr. by the July 31st deadline. Of course they say it comes down to where he would train in the offseason, and who would be a contender to go to the world series.
