Of course, with that, I'm running around.
I'll be at Gameworks at Newport on the Levee from 8:20-8:45 and then the pregame stuff starts around 9:15.
Our photographer, Brian Baker, will be shooting Opening Day festivities and the game. Look for some photo galleries throughout the day.
It should be fun.
* How about this? The New York Times picks the Reds to win the division. I'm not sure about that. I see them as No. 2 at best, No. 5 at worst. The Vegas over/under for wins is 79.5 and that's just about where I'd set it too. Last year I nailed the win total. This year I'm going with 80.
* Big League Stew looks at the five types of Opening Day starters.
* If you don't already have plans, here's what's going on today, you know, besides the game.
* Jeff Brantley used a racial slur on the air the other day, whether knowingly or not, there's no place for that. A really nice, even piece on Red Reporter about it.
* The fans choice bobblehead choices: Homer Bailey, Orlando Cabrera, Francisco Cordero, Johnny Cueto, Chris Dickerson, Ramon Hernandez, Arthur Rhodes, Drew Stubbs. I'm guessing either Bailey or Cueto win -- Cueto's hair could be fun.
I like the added sweepstakes portion of this year's vote, if you register to vote, you can win four infield box seats and four signed bobbleheads from the winner.
* A great story on former Red Bernie Carbo, who says Reds trainers introduced him to amphetamines and played every game of his big league career high.
* Aroldis Chapman isn't the first left-handed pitcher the Reds signed out of Cuba, former Red Mike Cuellar died this past week.
* A gallery of presidents throwing out the first pitch -- I like the throwing out the pitch from the stands.
* Inside MLB's blackout policy. I'd been thinking about ways to get rid of cable, and the No. 1 reason I don't is to get baseball games. I thought about Boxee and MLB.tv -- but wouldn't get Reds games that way.
* If I had disposable income, I'd jump all over this deal the World Series film collection for $90 over at Amazon.
* Congrats to my friend Mark Zuckerman, the former Washington Times Nats writer has been hired on a freelance basis by CSNWashington.com to cover the Nats.
* OK, this is just amazing. Vanderbilt's Corey Williams suffers a broken kneecap and still makes the play. Just amazing.
* Unpaid internships may be illegal, says the New York Times. I've worked at places that have totally exploited this -- a certain place I worked -- I'll call it Smear Smannel wouldn't get anything done without unpaid internships.
* Peeps sushi.
* The stages of FourSquare addiction. I'm still in stage 1. I'm still not sure of its benefits, if any exist.
* Scrabble with iPhones and an iPad looks pretty awesome. But I'd need another iPad to go on ScrabbleWordFinder.com.
* The iPad won't save print media -- it's the content, stupid.
* As a new Hold Steady albums approaches there will be more and more THS stuff, so just be aware of that. Anyway, here's an interview with Craig Finn and another new song. I think there's something in the interview that reminds me of a conversation Lee and I had -- we'd have probably both hated THS if they came out 10 years ago, maybe because we're different more than anything. I think I outgrew snark a while ago and hopefully I've outgrown judging everything (well, maybe not, but I can try) and feeling superior and just enjoying things. To me, that's what The Hold Steady is about -- enjoying yourself and what you're doing. I really, really love that band.

A couple of years ago, when you worked for the Post, you posted something about the start of a baseball season. (I believe it was you - hope so anyway) I was wondering if you were going to post that again this year?
I venture to say that Jeff Brantley didn't mean harm toward Asian people, but he was trying to play his dumb country boy card that makes us laugh in the booth. That is not to excuse it at all as usually when someone uses racist remarks, malicious or not, they show their stupidity and ignorance. Now, I really really like Brantley in the booth. I enjoy listening to him, and the banter between him and Tom or when he and Marty get to talking about what he's eating, or the ask Marty segment. However, I agree that this kind of stuff can't be tolerated.
I also believe, especially being in Cincinnati, people are going to think any criticism is an over reaction and that people are just too sensitive or whatever other excuse or close minded response this sort of conversation usually sparks.
Brantley's comments are really nothing compared to the two "slurs" made by Bronson Arroyo while on stage during the kids Q&A session at RedsFest 2008. Was anyone else there to see that?
the gameworks in cincinnati is still open? the one in columbus closed abruptly last week.
