Happy MLK Day, hope you didn't have to work, but also hope you go back and appreciate what Martin Luther King Jr. meant to this country.

* More coverage of us -- and you. Still can't thank the readers enough.

* I'm amazed by Cardinals fans -- yeah, they're the most blindly loyal fans in baseball, but cheering Mark McGwire? Ugh. I guess he did all he could to hel their team win games -- like cheat and break the law. But it's all for the Cardinals. Like their manager, Cardinal fans are willing to put their head in the sand and ignore it as long you stick to the "don't do drugs like me, kids" line as you get cheered for doing drugs.

And then they boo Jack Clark for saying cheaters shouldn't be celebrated. I mean, it's one thing if they booed him for dropping Steve Balboni's popup, but no, the boo him because he things cheaters should be punished. And then send out more death threats to Don Denkinger.

* A look at how Johnny Cueto's sophomore season and how similar it was to his rookie year.

* I know I pimp him here quite a bit, but he is my favorite writer -- and for this reason -- Poz can make grass growing interesting.

* The new MLB batting practice hats are out, and, well, they're awful. Cleveland's is the best of them -- and I'd love to see Cleveland go to that basic design full-time.

* Former big leaguer Jose Offerman punches an umpire in the Dominican League. Former Red Wily Mo Pena is on his team.

* The new Cubs ownership group wants to make some renovations to Wrigley Field for its 100th anniversary in 2014.

* I hear people all the time talk about how boring baseball is and how nothing goes on and all that. And it seems those people are always big football fans. According to this study of NFL games by the Wall Street Journal, the average 185-minute broadcast contains less than 11 minutes of football and an hour of commercials -- there's nearly six times as much commercial time as action time.

Oh, and the study also shows Fox sucks.

* Of that action yesterday, Ray Edwards dominated about a minute of it for the Vikings. If you missed this story earlier this year about the Cincinnati native on CNati.com, it's still just as good.

* Congrats to Marvin Lewis for winning the AP Coach of the Year award. You can't argue with what he and his team had to go through this season. The team probably won more games than they should have, and Lewis is a big reason why.

* Skip Holtz got more money because he didn't get the UC job.

* ESPN's Brian Bennett looks back at the decade in the Big East (football).

* Vince Dooley says he'll cheer for UT and his son over UGA when the two teams play. I'm perfectly fine with that.

* I'll start by saying I have no idea how trustworthy GamecockCentral.com is, but at the very least we got this brilliant piece by EDSBS. (HT to BTalbert)

* Congrats to UK's John Calipari and Big Blue Nation for raising $1 million for Haiti. Amazing. Great stuff by the 'Cats and their fans.

* A really good column by the Enquirer's Tom Callinan about Over the Rhine. I find it interesting that some of the people who scream loudest about Over the Rhine never leave their Kenwood Ivory Tower. Here's some photos of the buildings in the neighborhood. I love the architecture in this city.

* Wait, you mean a publication with limited ties to the city wouldn't know that the name was already taken? Makes me wonder about the validity of their choices.

* Yeah, I'm dorky enough to want the Luke Skywalker shoes.

* My friend Chris Starrs catches up with David Hood, the father of the Drive-By Truckers' Patterson Hood on his career and his son's.

* I'm pretty excited about David Simon's new show.

* The New York Times on how NBC has gone to garbage.

* It will get better in April, when Friday Night Lights returns.

* Conan O'Brien will be fine, but what about the Masturbating Bear and Pimpbot?

* Burger King is much cooler in Japan -- get a burger and a glass of Four Roses bourbon for 500 yen. Not bad.

Of the Adidas Star Wars collections, I think I could do the X-Wing shoes. I think they may have gone too far with the look of some (the Vaders & Yoda ones specifically).
But I'm judging thinking of actually wearing them. My guess is a lot will end up on shelves rather than on people's feet.

I'll jump on your Poz bandwagon - just devoured "The Machine". You know its a good read when your wife asks you, "are you ever going to put that book down?" I like how he references the pop culture from 1975. It helped deliver me into that period. Have begun passing the book to friends (don't tell Joe).

Nothing pisses me off more than someone talking shit about baseball being boring, then turning around and telling me how much they have to watch Golf or Soccer on TV. I also agree that football, especially the NFL, on TV is very uneventful. Punt, go to commercial, score a TD, commercial then come back for the kick off and commercial. Not to mention all the standing around in huddles and everything else. I like watching football, Lord knows I love college football, but because of all the time stoppages the typical football game lasts as long as baseball game, and there is largely nothing going on. I guess it's easier to watch because it's once a week and there's a chance someone will have some life altering injury in the game.

To BTALBERT25:

I think the English Premier League soccer is incredible to watch - 45 minutes of uninterrupted action followed by 15 minutes of intermission and then another 45 minutes of commercial free action. I agree, golf used to be a little tough but with larger televisions and stereo sound, golf is pretty awesome, especially the four majors, and the five or six other big tournaments every year (TPC, Memorial, AT&T at Pebble Beach, Tucson Open, and Congressional).

Perhaps you never played or had interest in either sport, golf or soccer.
