I love election day. I like federal elections, I like local elections. I love voting.
So yeah, go out and vote if it's your thing -- I'm a big beleiver that the only thing worse than not voting is an uneducated vote. Me, I'm happy to vote for some things and against some things and not vote for people who hit me in the balls.
* Speaking of doing things you believe in -- Chris Dickerson will be at a press conference at the United Nations on Wednesday to raise awareness for environmental concerns.
* Red Reporter is counting down the top 100 Reds and Brandon Phillips makes the first batch -- behind Danny Graves.
* A link from Doug Gray at RedsMinorLeagues.com -- but Project Prospect has Todd Frazier as the top 2B candidate in the minors.
* I tend not to listen to announcers all that much and rarely get worked up about who says what during a game, but did Joe Buck last night mention OPS like it was this brand new stat? Really?
I guess it just reminds me why I just don't pay that much attention. I usually prefer to zone it out and trust my eyes over what some hairdo tells me.
* The New York Times doesn't listen to me and listens to the Fox postgame and notices no questions were asked.
* Jeff Passan on Chase Utley. Could a member of the losing team of the World Series win the MVP?
* More awesomeness about A-Rod and the centaur -- you may have seen this in yesterday's comments, but just in case you didn't... this is awesome.
* Congrats to the Diamondbacks' Clay Zavada, who won the Robert Goulet Memorial Mustached American of the Year award, presented by the American Mustache Institute. Bravo.
* ESPN's Brian Bennett asks if the Bearcats could get Auburn'd this year. I think we may be ahead of ourselves right now and why not wait to see if UC wins the rest of its schedule.
* Miami coach Mike Haywood has been leaning on mentors Charlie Weis and Mack Brown.
* I really enjoy the work of CNBC's Darren Rovell and think he does a great job. And from a marketing stnadpoint, he may be right here -- but from every other standpoint, he's wrong. I don't care how you become an American, once you're an American, you're an American. I don't believe in the BS Palin "real Americans" crap. If you are an American, you're a real one. Rovell writes: "He is an American citizen thanks to taking a test and living in our country." I find that more impressive than just being born somewhere.
There's more here on Meb Keflezighi and the controversy. It's stuff like this that makes me sad for my country.
* Gotta give credit where credit is due -- ESPN's 30 for 30 has been really, really good. I'm looking forward to Without Bias tonight.
* Pabst is up for sale. Sell high, I guess.
* Singer-songwriter Vic Chesnutt talks about his new band, depression and health care. A good read on a great artist.
* Pearl Jam as Devo for Halloween.
* Rolling Stone has a preview of the new book Grunge
* Last summer I really enjoyed NBC's Southland and was bummed when I heard NBC canceled it even with six episodes already shot -- well, TNT picked up those six episodes. That's good. But I don't see them putting in the money to continue the show, which stinks. I hope I'm wrong.
* TV executives may have wised up about DVRs and now understand they're a good thing, not a bad thing.
* Clark and Rusty Griswald will reunite on the disappointing Community.
* Good luck to the people laid off by Scripps Howard at Channel 9.
* Harvard is having a class based on The Wire
* The Germans don't like 30 Rock.
* Marvel is releasing some of its comics on the iPhone.
* What your beer says about you. What does it say about me? "153% more likely to always buy organic, 52% more likely to be fans of the show "The Office" and 36% more likely to be the ones to choose the movie they are going to see at the theater."
Sounds about right.

I totally agree with you about the whole "Real American" I think that those who came from elsewhere and had the desire to move here and go through all the steps to become a citizen, appreciate being American more than me and most other Americans do.
Also, before people start raising a fit I think it's important to remember that America was framed by not real Americans. Probably 99% of our families came here at some point from another place and weren't real Americans. Our whole society has been built by those who were here originally and a big mix of everyone else. Music, food, archetecture, law, virtually everything we deal with every day has been affected by, influenced by, or created by people who weren't real Americans.
I have under rated UC all season and it may or may not be fair, but I agree, they need to finish their season unbeaten. You all may think I'm crazy but I think the game they really need to be careful in is Illinois. The team may have a terrible record, but it is loaded with talent and may pose a problem. Pitt is very good as well, but UC will be expecting them to be good. I will go on record saying UC should be put on upset alert for Illinois. I'm either nuts, or a genius lol.
I've been told by friends who were at the advance screening of the Len Bias doc that there was only one piece of new news and that it's an aggregation of everything written over the years.
The bigger question is why is Bias relevant now? Today's kids don't know who he was and they could care less. It's been over 20 years.
But at the time, it was widely believed Bias's death would change the drug culture among teens and young adults. An athlete so promising dying of an overdose on a national stage.
For the most part, his death has changed little and his story today—all these years later—has what resonance? Sad, yet true.
Those abstainers sound like lame city. I'm an import/craft elitist but if I'm drinking domestic, it's Miller Lite, and never Bud Light.
Good for Chris Dickerson. Now, where's my Dasani?
I loved Southland as well; here's good news for you (and me) http://ausiellofiles.ew.com/2009/11/02/scoop-tnt-may-expand-southland-episodes/
