I know it's rare, but I really think we've got the two best teams in baseball going for the World Series. I like the Phillies' lineup and rotation (although, I'm not sure about Pedro Martinez going in Game 2). I don't like the back of the Phillies' bullpen, though.
Either way, in this ballpark, there are going to be some HR, so keeping guys off base will be huge.
I'm sticking with the Phils in 6, but I'm really hedging on that. For a guy saying the Phils in 6, I'm really thinking the Yankees might take it. Either way, I'm hoping for a great series. Who you got?
* Jamie Ramsey catches up with Scott Hatteberg. A former catcher, I've always seen Hatteberg as a potential manager, but I also know he's very devoted to his family and in this he says he'd consider managing, but after his kids are older because of the time commitment, and I believe that. He also talks about the now-dead Moneyball movie where he was going to play himself.
* It doesn't happen often, but Tim McCarver has a point and a great line -- "Quite simply, the bias comes not from the voice, but from the ears."
* The worst fielders in 2009 (using Totalzone) include some with good reputations, like Gary Matthews Jr. and David Wright.
* Ken Griffey Jr. was in town to undergo knee surgery from Dr. Kremcheck -- so, does that mean he's leaning toward returning?
* Dealing with the shame of being a Yankees fan.
* If I had a lot of money, I'd like to get some of these ballpark seats.
* I've really got to find some reading time -- because I've got several books I'm looking forward to reading -- got another one today -- Game Six: Cincinnati, Boston, and the 1975 World Series: The Triumph of America's Pastime
* ESPN debates Iowa vs. Cincinnati -- I agree with Brain Bennett -- Bearcats all the way.
* Another week, another conspiracy theory against SEC refs. This time Lane Kiffin is put on double-secret probation. As someone who has watched a lot of SEC football, I don't think the refs are good enough to carry out a conspiracy.
* Kiffikins is blaming refs, and Mike Leach is blaming "fat little girlfriends" -- really.
* The AJC's Tony Barnhart says it's time for conferences to get out of the officiating business. I agree with him.
* Swine flu vs. moving. Yeah, moving's gotta be a worse.
* Pitchfork interviews the Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne.
* Morrissey has been released from the hospital and has resumed touring.
* A real-life Jaws?
* Why would anyone think a Short Circuit remake is a good idea?
* I'm glad it wasn't just me that thought the Chris Farley DIrectTV commercial was creepy.
* The Globe and Mail profiles Nick Hornby.
* A friend sent me a recipe for bacon jam.
* I look around the house and wonder if this is what is going through the DLP's head.
* One of the things I miss about working at a newspaper is hearing the crazy stuff from the police blotter -- like this from my old newspaper.

Nice tag on the Hatteberg article. He had a good run here in Cincy, and he has excellent taste in music. And he's right...the Pacific Northwest is amazing.
My Father has 4 connected seats from Crosley. I had no idea they were worth that much. His are in great condition as well. Wonder if he would miss them?
I'll keep that in mind when the state gets casinos and I become a deginerate gambler.
Let me preface this by saying I'm a Big East homer.
Looking at this as objectively as I can, I cannot figure out why the Big East continues to get little to no respect.
How can UC be behind USC?? Seriously. USC lost to a 3-5 Washington, and all UC does is destroy damn near everybody. Head-to-head comparison even has the Bearcats on top. They travel a few thousand miles and beat Oregon St. by 10, while USC plays the Beavers at home and win by 6. I know, I know.....if UC continues to win, it'll all shake out, but how can the voters EVER put a one loss USC ahead of UC? Terrible.
Also, how can a 2 loss Miami, VT and Ohio State be ahead of 1 loss WVU?? Because they play in the ACC and the Big 10/11? Gimme a break.
I'd take the top 4 Big East schools over the top 4 in those 2 conferences. Don't believe me?? Take a look....
Cinn., WVU, Pitt, & USF compared to Clemson, VT, BC & Georgia Tech. I think the Big East stacks up pretty well here.
Cinn., WVU, Pitt & USF compared to Iowa, OSU, PSU & Michigan St.. Again, I think the Big East matches up favorably.
Heck the top 4 SEC schools this year are Florida, 'Bama, LSU and Ole Miss. Do you really think any of those teams couldn't be beaten by UC...or WVU....or Pitt??
This year's college football is one of "close, but no cigar". There's good teams, but no untouchables. The Big East is on par with any of the other conferences.
Pitt and UC match up with teams from other conferences very well. Sure they could beat Penn State, Iowa, Ohio State, USC, Va Tech, Miami, Oregon etc. They do not match up well with Texas, Bama, and Florida though. Also, both Pitt and UC are getting all kind of love on ESPN the last few weeks. I can't wach a game w/out an announcer mentioning them.
West Virginia is suspect. They have only lost one game and it was at Auburn, but Auburn has been getting throttled lately. West Virginia has the 53rd strongest schedule in America. Compare that to Miami who is 7th and Va Tech who is 1. Of course they are going to be rated higher it has nothing to do with the conference. Miami beat Oklahoma who is still a good team and Va Tech put up a good fight against Bama and they killed Miami and Georgia Tech. West Virginia has beat UConn and Colorado.
South Florida is not good. You've seen what happened when they played 2 teams that are good. They get waxed back to back weeks.
I'd take the top 2 in the Big East with most teams in the country, but I wouldn't say their West Virginia and South Florida match up with Ohio State, Arizona, Ole Miss, Nebraska etc.
