It must be football season, I messed up my ankle good. Real good.

Thanks to the folks at Beacon Orthopedic, I now have a stylish boot, which is fun. And I got to see why I spend money on COBRA every month. Yee-haw.

* A good breakdown of the Packers-Bengals film from a Packers perspective. I'd like to know if there are any football coaches or someone with a similar background who would like to do this each week with CNati? E-mail me at ctrent@cnati.com and we'll see what we can do. I think it'd be a killer idea.

Anyway, notice the big runs by Benson were helped by Bob Bratkowski doing something a little different and catching people off-guard. Bratkowski gets a lot of heat -- and much of it deserved -- but he also does some good stuff like that.

* I totally forgot to mention it yesterday, but how awesome were the Falcon throwbacks? Like Buffalo and New England, so much better than what they wear now.

* Do the Dolphins really play Jimmy Buffet when they score a touchdown? That's awful. Puke.

* Herschel Walker has signed an MMA contract. At 47. But hey, he's Herschel.

* You may not like their uniforms, but you have to give Oregon coach Chip Kelly some credit. Read this story and then tell me you don't want that guy to succeed.

* How do you make Friday Night Lights better? Add Mike Leach.

* One thing (among many) I miss about being a traveling beat writer is getting to see the age-old tradition of rookies being forced to dress up for a road trip. Here's the Yankees version and it's done very well.

* The NCAA is snooping around baseball "advisers" -- college baseball players can have advisers, but not agents. I've always found it odd.

* My man 'Duk on the football-baseball double standard. This time it's Cowboy Stadium that's receiving the double standard.

* Corey Brinn on "the Bat" from the Dayton Dragons.

* I try to avoid political subjects here, but I would love a streetcar in Cincinnati and think it would help our city. One of the objections I've heard is that it goes "nowhere" -- this slideshow shows differently. I thought of how much I would have liked this when I worked downtown. Maybe one day CNati can have a downtown office.

* Did Pearl Jam sell out?

* What your favorite Pavement album says about you -- my favorite is Slanted & Enchanted

* A new Paul Westerberg EP is out today.

* A guest-eye view of Top Chef.

* Jim and Pam have a wedding website.

* There will be no more This American Life TV show, Ira Glass said this weekend.

* Porkins!

Dude, how'd you screw up your ankle? Regardless, good stuff today. Of course, Porkins in the world's easiest mash-up and what is Herschel thinking? I know he's into martial arts (and apparently quite good) but he doesn't need this. Just added Friday Night Lights to our Netflix queue, so we'll finally give it a try.

Herschel must be an interesting character. Didn't he do bobsledding for a while too?

Off subject, but I remember a couple weeks back you were upset because instead of Georgia/Ok State, we were going to have a Big10/MAC show down on local TV. During the Ohio State game last week I saw that they were actually televising Buffalo/Temple on ESPN plus coverage this weekend. Talk about The Toilet Bowl.

I'm gonna go ahead and be a dick here, but....I have found that MOST folks who claim their favorite Pavement record is S&E can not tell you as to why. It is indeed the most critically lauded and perhaps the most original but it doesnt stand up all that well. As someone who I believe isn't interested in naming that album to garner cool points, please explain why you like S&E best. Note: just because is an acceptable albeit frustrating answer. Further note: I have Wowee Zowee by a hair.

Ok...I like Pavement. No problems there. I like a lot of indie bands...and I'm an enormous Wilco fan.

But isn't it a little "too cool for school" to hate on Jimmy Buffet? Stop being such a music snob when you are trying to get the good folks of Cincy to embrace you. It does more harm than good on a sports blog, especially one in a city that is famous for it's love of Jimmy Buffet. Take that advice for what it's worth.

Love the website, but if you are going to succeed and pull guys like me away from The Enquirer for local sports coverage...better weekend coverage may help. Especially during NFL season. Maybe it's coming.

Oh well...would love to see you succeed, and while you may be getting hits...comments seem sparse.

I do enjoy coming on here and think it's kind of nice to not have some of the junk that's posted on the Enquirer, just about everyone on here is pretty nice and at least somewhat intelligent.

I can appreciate knocking the Buffet music at Dolphins games, it's not exactly the up tempo hard core football kind of music. But I guess when he drops over 100 mil to name the stadium he can get what he wants.

C. Trent: That's a terrific idea about getting a football coach to do a Bengals film breakdown piece every week like the one you linked from the Green Bay Press Gazzette. That type of story is termendously interesting and tends to reveal important factors about a game that often get overlooked by most news coverage. I hope you're able to find somebody to do it. It's asking a lot, but I would love it if CNati could do the same thing for UC's games too. Keep up the great work on the site.

If you liked that Packers film breakdown, you must DVR NFL Matchup every Sunday at 3:30 AM and 7:30 AM. It's not a hype show like everything else NFL, it's a show about X's and O's and learning about actual football.

"as for the comments, i'd rather have sparse comments but comments i'd like to read other than 100 racist ramblings"

This is perfect that people can take the credit loans and that opens completely new possibilities.
