Well, first off, the news...
I, along with several other people at Clear Channel Cincinnati, was laid off today.
I'm fine, I'm completely taken aback by the response and once again humbled by the people. Thank you so much.
As for what's next? Well, I'm hungry. I need lunch.
Then I'll respond to all the e-mails, calls, tweets and such as I can. I'm gonna find a place to eat lunch and do that.
But hey, this should have an RSS feed, so that's good.
We'll keep in touch.
And, no, I don't think I'm going to the Reds game tonight. I'm sure I'll still watch it, though.
We'll see. And this isn't the end, it's just another start.
Thanks again.
Sorry to hear that CTR. Best of luck with a new start, and at the very least, you can now rock an RSS feed on your blog.
I know you will find something, I just hope in it locally. Your Reds coverage is outstanding.
Sorry to hear that, I will definitely be cutting back on my 1530 website viewing.
On another note, you should start the Ctrentrosecrans 1531 station in the janitor room of Clear channel.
Kidding of course, but I am sure you will do fine, keep fighting the good fight and get this website up and running.
C Trent-
Just heard about clearchannel...absolute crappery. Sent my obligatory anger mail, but honestly I could care less about them at this juncture, i just hope you are able to stay and write in cincy. Enjoy a nice tall pint with lunch today.
trh
NOOOOOOO!
Good luck with your future endeavors man, like trh, I hope you can stay in Cincinnati - you make our sports coverage infinitely better!
No matter where you end up, I'll be following!
CTR: 1530's loss - but hopefully, Cincinnati remains your base of operations, which is definitely your readers' gain. Just wanted to say so, all the way from L.A., where you help me stay on top of my world'o'RedsBearcatsBengalsMusketeers-cincyburgers'n'music-etal. And the first thing I did was rock your RSS feed - so, along with following you on twitter, hope to see you become the @anamariecox of Cincy sports'n'culture (that's the best compliment/best wish I can think of!).
I'd be OK if I were you too because I'm sure you realize you're just a victim of some very f'd up circumstances (again, which sucks) but when it comes down to it you're outstanding at what you do and you've become quite popular here so you're bound to land somewhere else soon. Hope the place that is fortunate enough to pick you up off waivers ends up being a good fit for you. Best of luck-
Absolute skullduggery on 1530's part. One of the highlights of my workday were your daily blog posts. Your sports and music insights will be sorely missed.
You are too respectful to say it, so let me say if for you...Cox Publications should have already contacted you. You are the best "ink stained wretch" this town has seen in a long time!
Trent - If you need any website development help, let me know (free of course). I look forward to reading your blog here.
CTrent I have always enjoyed your writing, the live blogging, and appearences on the radio. Wildly talented and interesting on the radio you will be missed. Your understanding of Cincinnati sports will be greatly missed. Good things happen to good people something good should happen for you.
Tough to see you caught up in this mess. Best of luck moving forward. Given the talent you have shown over the past couple years I have followed you, I have no doubt you will find something that makes you happy. Here's hoping you stay in the 'Nati, so I can get perspective of what is going on in what will always be my hometown!
CTR, you will land on your feet again. Talented people always find work. Maybe you could write a book about Katzo writing his book.
Employ the Best Journalist in Cincinnati: Check.
Fire him because you can't figure out how to turn a dime: Check.
Sorry to hear the news, CTR. You just went through all of this not long ago. It's never easy. Times are a changing, that's for sure. But we have to wonder if it's for the better or not.
I'm sure with your talents, you'll end up on your feet. Here's hoping along with everyone else that you somehow end up staying here in Cincy.
CTR - I looked forward to your daily musings on sports and other topics. No doubt you'll be back at it soon. Talent doesn't sit on the sidelines long.
Trent - That sucks. I'm sorry. BTW, your face is on the front of Cincinnati.com.
So I move to Chattanooga, only to discover that, 8 months later, the Lookouts crap on my heart by joining with the hated Dodgers after 22ish years of Reds affiliation.
Now you're not going to be covering the Reds anymore? Say it ain't so, Trent. Hope you land somewhere soon--I enjoy the blog.
Why is it that these things always seem to happen to the people who don't deserve it. CC doesn't have a clue and 1530Homer will miss you more than you will miss them.
Best of wishes for a successful landing on your feet. I will look forward to following your career wherever it ends up.
as part of my morning routine, i got online to read thinking out loud. when it got to be around 1 and it still wasn't updated, i figured you got swine flu. then i found out you were laid off. i wish it had been swine flu.
Thanks for your hard work covering my sports teams the past few years. Like the others I hope you'll land on another Cincy-based job. Regardless, I'll be following your writing.
I followed your blog on 1530, sorry to hear the bad news. I'm sure something better will come along. If you're ever interested in upgrading the design of this wordpress theme let me know, I'm a wordpress designer and my services can be found at http://www.invisionblue.com
Thanks,
Scott
Your 1530 blog was my first stop in the morning and frequent stop throughout the day.
WOWWWW what a bad day for the cincy sports scene. PLEEEASSSE try to stay in town. A local TV station would be wise to contact you regarding a position on air and online. Best of luck to you CTR - you will certainly be missed...
Sorry to hear the news Ctrent. I really hope you stay local because you do a great job. Reading your work has become a daily habit.
Best of luck CTR. As a Cincinnati resident I'm hoping you land somewhere here. Very much enjoy your work.
As someone who has always blamed CC for ruining radio musically I think in the long run you'll be better off.
As a non Cincinnati (Huntington, WV) resident, but a Reds fan, CTR I'm pretty bummed about hearing about your job loss! You made reading about the reds enjoyable and fun! not like most. You has a style that keeps it light and fresh. I hope you land some where in the cincy area where he can continue his reds beat coverage.
where ever you go I'll be following!
Best of luck!
Good luck out there Trent. I think Cincy sports fans are going to miss you more than we know right now.
Good luck with everything! I really enjoyed reading your blog.
good luck c trent ! i loved reading ur blog everyday ! hope ur next job is in the nati!
We'll follow around anywhere, CTrent. Fact is you're a good one, and the good ones are few enough that they eventually find and keep a following. Keep tapping your keyboard and you'll be fine.
Most/all of my sentiments have been expressed by others, but I don't care: (i) loved reading your blog everyday; (ii) appreciated your candor and your journalistic approach; (iii) can't imagine not having your take on Reds/Bengals going forward; and (iv) thanks for supplying me with about half of my favorite bookmarks (JT's blog, Doug Gray's site, etc.).
I wish you nothing but the best with your next 'new beginning'. (I just hope it doesn't involve Cleveland or Pittsburgh...)
Hate to hear about getting laid off. What a bummer. Just wanted to tell you how much you are appreciated, Like everyone else has stated, and to thank you for starting a blog site that still exists on another site. We all came together under your leadership to talk about Reds baseball, pork products and music. Thanks to you we continue your legend and hope you come by and see us sometime. Mr. Redlegs can give you the site location.
Do know that you will land on your feet and be better for it. Good luck and keep us informed as to your plans.
Good Luck.
CTR, this sucks. Best of luck to you in finding new employment ASAP. For our sake, I hope it's here in Cincinnati. I very much enjoy your unique brand of coverage of our local sports teams, and I really hope that some other city doesn't take you away from us.
Good luck. I'll still be reading!
C Trent, sorry to hears the news. I have read your work on a daily basis since the Post days and will continue to do so. Hopefully you stick around Cincy. Your Reds and Bengals coverage was the best.
Good luck.
CTR,,, keep your head up brother. You are a known commodity to every true sports fan in town,,,hope to see you back in action soon. Look at the plus side,, you are no longer bound by the "Dark Side" (yep,,,, stab at your former employer" and the Death Star,,,,, BRING BACK THE LOTD!!!! Long live the Burger Blog,,,,,, and have a frekin' blast seeing Wilco
CTR - you will be sorely missed if you do not find a gig in the Nati. I enjoy your takes on all aspects of life, not just sports.
After all the nice things you've said about Scripps and Gannett, I don't think you should have a problem catching on at one of their newspapers.
I think you have the talent to take your blog mainstream. You need a catchy name, and you can create the next Deadspin or KSK!!!
Good luck in all future endeavors!
They come and they go Hobbs - they come and they go.
I am absolutely stunned....how does Daryl Parks sleep at night? CTrent, you are by far the most talented personality at 1530. You have class, terrific reporting skills, and people relate to you because you are a normal guy, not some egotistical, wanna be superstar like the guy they kept (shotgun) at 1530. You truly deserved better today. I wish you nothing but the best and hope you land on your feet soon.
CTR, I loved your insight and humor starting back on the old Post blog. I've been mostly a lurker, posting little. Your military background and Southern roots match mine. God bless and I hope all works for you.
Cheers,
Bob
Nothing profound to add, just want to add another voice of good wishes and hope that you will continue to persevere through the challenging times. Hopefully by continuing to blog doggedly.
Keep truckin' on, as a lot of KY people would say. Sorry the changes stuck you in the undertow again. Keep the site up on the next part of the journey. Good luck
CTR,
I love sports and you by far top the any of the writers I regularly follow. I will definitely keep you and your colleauges in my thoughts and prayers. I hope something comes along that will keep you in Cincinnati - it would be a shame to lose the best journalist in town.
Brutal, just brutal. I have appreciated your candor, your insight and your humor. I hope that you land on your feet in a place that values your talent and integrity.
CTR.....really sorry to hear the news...this can be such a minor league town in so many ways and the continuing erosion of the media is another example....I loved your blog and hope to see you continue it here....I loved all the links that you provide as they always seem to go to outstanding sites....wish you the best of luck and this town is less connected and less hip with your absence.
I know you'll be ok CTR, you're too talented to not be. I'm going to miss you every day on 1530. You always had a great way of seeing things and communicating them. Please keep doing this blog. You have so much info that I normally wouldn't read.
thanks for all the laughs, baseball knowledge and interesting takes. Heck, I've even forgotten you're a Bulldog fan....kinda.
Jodi
CTR- I was very disappointed to hear that you no longer were employed by Clear Channel, and even more disappointed when I realized you would no longer be blogging on 1530.com. Today however I was excited when I came across your blog. I enjoy your insight in the local sports world! KEEP BLOGGING!
Another Black Tuesday, this is just terrible news, for you and your counterparts. I would say that I am going to miss hearing you on 1530 Homer, but, I will no longer be listening to said station. I wish you nothing but the best. They say, " when one door closes, another one opens". Whichever new door opens for you, please keep us informed. Thank you for bringing, carrying, the average listener, to the sports.... be good.
hey ctr just heard the word that sux. I enjoyed your insight about anything sports, music, etc.
